What is a Family & Friends Railcard?
A Family & Friends Railcard is a great way to save money on train travel. Up to 4 adults and 4 children can get discounted travel when travelling together. Adults save 1/3 and children save 60%.
Two pre-specified adults are named on the railcard and one of these adults can travel with at least one child to get the discount. Don’t forget you must travel with your railcard for the discount to be valid.
How much is a Family & Friends Railcard?
Family & Friends Railcards are available as a 1-year or 3-year railcard. The 1-year option is £30, and the 3-year option is £70.
How do I use a Family & Friends Railcard?
Up to four adults and four children aged 5-15 travelling together can benefit from this railcard. To validate the discount, at least one of the named adults on the railcard and one child can travel with a Family & Friends railcard. The two adults on the railcard must be named but don’t need to travel together, so when one cardholder isn’t using it, the other can. The second named cardholder doesn’t have to be related to you and can be a friend or childminder making it perfect for days out with friends and kids.

If a child turns 16 before your 1-year Family & Friends Railcard runs out, they can still travel at the discounted child fare for as long as the card is still valid.
If you’ve got a 3-year Railcard and the child turns 16 before it expires, they can carry on travelling at the discounted child rate until the day before they turn 17.
