Hull Trains, one of the UK’s leading open access train operators, has announced the introduction of new Snack Boxes as part of its onboard food and drink offer.

Providing customers with a selection of flavoursome snacks is in direct response to  feedback and represents Hull Trains’ ongoing commitment to enhancing the onboard experience. The operator achieved 96% in a recent customer satisfaction survey.

As part of the Standard Class at-seat food and drink service, the new Snack Boxes offer a variety of delicious options as well as an assortment of sweet and savoury treats. Hull Trains is proud to provide appetising alternatives that leave conventional offerings behind at the station.

Customers can also enjoy an array of locally sourced and increasingly popular items such as shortbread, cakes, chocolates, and other choices including locally brewed beer.

Jenna Chinery, Onboard Experience Manager at Hull Trains, outlined some of the new choices now available to customers: “At Hull Trains we’re proud of our East Coast route and heritage, but we’re also modern and forward thinking and we’ve tried to reflect that in the new selections available.

“Customers can choose from a more traditional Ploughman’s with farmhouse flavours, a Tapas Selection for those who enjoy a bit of Spanish flair or a Plant-based box, which is suitable for all, but particularly those with a vegan or gluten free diet. Finally, our younger travellers are not forgotten with fun snack favourites, plus colouring activities to keep them entertained.”

The continued growth of Hull Trains means more customers are able to enjoy the great value fares connecting Hull with places such as Selby, Doncaster and Grantham with more people wanting food and refreshments on the move.

News of the improved product range comes as the train operator also confirms its initial 12-month trial of providing a food and drink service in standard class has been a success and will be made a long-term aspect of its onboard offer. Linked to this is the creation of 12 new permanent roles at Hull Trains, including nine onboard hosts and three service centre assistants based in the city.

Louise Mendham, Service Delivery Director at Hull Trains, added: "Even though we achieved a fantastic 96% customer satisfaction score earlier this year, we’re always looking for new ways to further enhance our services to keep delivering for customers.

Offering an improved selection of onboard snacks and refreshments was something our customers asked for, and we’re delighted to see them already proving popular onboard our services."

All of the cartons and outer packaging is made from FSC certified cardboard and is fully recyclable. Where possible, components are also sourced to include sustainable packaging credentials. The food supplier ‘Jacq out the Box’ is a female owned business and the leading UK snack box supplier within the retail travel industry. The aim for Hull Trains is to deliver a high-speed plate experience in a box for its customers.

Customers can purchase the snack boxes in Standard Class as part of the at-seat trolley service. People in First Class can already take advantage of the extensive complimentary menu offer on all Hull Trains services.
