Colleagues at Hull Trains, Britain’s Rail Operator of the Year, have raised almost £1500 in support of their charity of choice, Hull Children’s University.
The company hosted a race night at the Haworth Arms, Beverley Road on Friday 14th July, which was attended by colleagues and their friends and family. Claire Dilley, HR Officer at Hull Trains organised the evening and was delighted with the results. Claire says: “It was a fantastic evening, full of fun and cheeky banter - with a few close calls on the races. All our colleagues supported this, with many attending the evening and those who couldn’t bought races and raffle tickets in advance.”
Over the past year, Hull Trains, with Hull Children’s University, has transported more than 1100 children (over 36 school classes) to the capital. Some have spent the day visiting the key historical sights and landmarks, while others have had the fantastic opportunity to sleep under the dinosaurs in the National History Museum.
Claire says: “We selected Hull Children’s University as our charity partner this year because of the huge value they bring to the lives of local children and the experiences they give them. We have always been involved in helping to take local children to London on the HCU trips, so it made good sense for us to commit to raising funds and giving them further support this year.”
Hull Trains’ on-board host Annette Brown says: “It’s always a pleasure when pupils from Hull Children’s University are on-board. The children are always so excited to be going to London. For some, it’s also their first experience on a train. We ensure they receive the same warm welcome as every other customer, with a few little extras thrown in, such as meeting the driver and the on-board team! It’s great news that we are now able to support the charity through fundraising too.”
Rose James, Partnership Manager at Hull Children’s University says: "We are so grateful to Hull Trains for their ongoing support for our charity. Their colleagues always go above and beyond to help, whether it be the booking of our London visits, on board the trains or organising events to raise money for us as their chosen charity. The money raised over the year will send a whole class of children from disadvantaged areas of the city on an experience of a lifetime in London!"
