Who would have thought Hull would be a hotspot for movie sets and film stars! Our cobbled streets and historic buildings and townhouses have become sought-after filming locations for Hollywood blockbusters. The unique blend of history, architecture, and friendly locals has made it a popular choice for filmmakers.

Recently Hull welcomed the filming of Sir Steve McQueen’s highly anticipated World War II movie, Blitz. Set to be released to stream on Apple TV on Friday 22nd November 2024, Hull’s historic Old Town was the perfect backdrop to be transformed into a 1940s London. Film stars include Saoirse Ronan, Stephen Graham, Kathy Burke and Harris Dickinson.

Hull Paragon Railway Station also features in the film, showcased as a bustling wartime transport hub complete with a steam locomotive 44932 that was brought in specially for filming.

Another key location for Blitz was the iconic Hepworth Arcade. This beautiful Victorian arcade was given a wartime makeover, with wartime posters and displays in shopfronts.

Blitz is just the latest in a string of productions to choose Hull as their filming location. Be sure to stream Blitz when it is released and see if you can spot the iconic Hull locations! Other high-profile productions filmed in “Hullywood” include The Crown, Enola Holmes, Bodies and Victoria.
